Nearly a century ago, the future Mr. and Mrs. Kurtinitis met as pen pals.
William was an upholsterer in Sheboygan, WI and Helen was a young woman in Cincinnati, OH. William came to Cincinnati so they could meet in person; three short days later they were married. William found a steady job at Cincinnati Milacron but kept up with his upholstery business on the weekends.
Little by little, the young couple saved money in their sugar bowl until they could buy a building and open their own upholstery business. In 1942, they opened Kurtinitis Upholstery and that building houses Interiors by Kurtinitis to this day. Over the years William and Helen expanded their enterprise, both in square feet and offerings — adding design services and retail space to their shop. Their daughter, Marianne ran the shop when her parents were ready to retire. Currently, Interiors by Kurtinitis is owned and operated by JW Fleckenstein who has been affiliated with Kurtinitis for over 25 years.

J has spent over 45 years in the field of Interior Design Since after receiving a degree in Environmental Design from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. With a strong background in space planning and furniture layout, J is able to help clients reach their design goals while making good use of what is already in the space. Whether it is a one room project or a whole home, J is always focused on customer service and making sure the project reflects the client’s needs and wants. He loves to mix colors and patterns with an eye on every detail, big or small. When J finishes a space, he takes pride in the design reflecting the client’s wishes and working within their budget. “When I finish a project I want it to reflect the client. I do not want people to walk into a space and say, oh J did this space”.
Larry Mcgruder
Interior Designer
Larry has spent many years in interior design; 15 of them at Interiors by Kurtinitis. He received a bachelor’s degree from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. Larry specializes in residential design services in styles ranging from contemporary to transitional and traditional. He particularly loves Incorporating clients’ personal pieces into their new or newly-refurbished spaces.

Office Manager, Art Gallery Coordinator
Bob keeps all of the details of Interiors by Kurtinitis’ busy shop, design business and Art Gallery in order. With a BBA in Accounting/Business Administration and decades of experience in the private sectors, the government sectors, and the art world, Bob provides clients the help they need managing the endless details associated with Interior Design. He particularly loves helping customers look for a specific accessory within the vast collection of accessories Interiors by Kurtinitis offers. The blue and white porcelains are his personal favorite. Additionally, Bob manages the Kurtinitis Gallery located on site. The Kurtinitis Gallery features local artists working in a wide variety of styles and mediums and welcomes all visitors.
